About Tom Bennett Photography

I have been selling my mounted and matted prints since 2003 at various arts and craft shows in the greater Madison area.

One of my favorite subjects to photograph is my daughter.  She can hit the perfect pose!  My granddaughters are now competing with her for the spotlight. I have a camera with me almost all of the time and have grown accustom to hearing "We have to wait for Dad to take a picture".

I am also fortunate to have access to a wonderful flower garden next door.

Company history

I bought my first digital camera in May of 2001.  The very first day I received it, I went for a walk and took this picture of the sunset.  The actual sunset wasn't that spectacular. However, the way I had framed the shot and how the camera metered the light made an impression on me as soon as I had downloaded the image.  I was hooked!

I spent the next couple of years taking pictures of anything and everything. I took the picture of the male lion in 2004 through the glass (way up high, above all of the kid smear) at the Henry Vilas Zoo.  It has proven very popular.  I have had many requests to use it from all over the world.

I have become a little more selective now and don't fire off quite as many shots.  I am trying to improve my techniques and learn more about the features of my camera.

I have been doing more portraits for friends and acquaintances. Photographing people is a lot harder than it looks!  Composition, posing, background, backlight, frontlight, chin up, chin down, etc etc.  I have enjoyed the opportunity to experiment and learn!
